About MeI was born in Southern California but grew up in Placerville from the age of eight. Most of my youth was growing up in a nice old house on seven acres overlooking the Placerville valley. There, my parents raised riding and race horses. I spent many days in a kind of "Tom Sawyer" existence; hiking through the woods with my dog, hunting and fishing. I was a voracious reader and once read an entire set of encyclopedias. I had many hobbies growing up, including rock collecting, chemistry, coin collecting, electronics and amateur radio. Interested in global communications even as a child, I was the second-youngest amateur radio operator in the US at the age of 12. My station call letters at that time were WA6ZHL. I remember staying up late nights talking to people all over the the United States and the world. I have wonderful parents, Kenneth and Melba Thompson. My father was a general contractor and built several homes where we lived in Placerville. He taught me several building skills that come in handy almost every day. He also taught me the value of hard work on behalf of your family. My mother was mostly a homemaker but also started very successful careers in sales with Welcome Wagon and in real estate. I have an older brother, Terry, who's recently retired from law enforcement, a younger brother, Keith, a Progress database programmer, and a younger sister, Janice, a manager at a title company in Placerville. Terry lives in Tennessee with his wife, Linda, and Keith and Janice live in Placerville with their families. I also have an older half brother that I did not know about until I was 28. He lives and works in Southern California with his family and has since established close ties with the rest of our families. I attended public schools in Placerville, and attended American River Junior College. I worked for my father off and on from the age of 12 to 28. During that period, I also worked in San Francisco as a sales person and Kansas City for RCA installing TV antennas. I returned to Placerville in 1972 where I again worked for my dad, and I also played music professionally in a local rock and roll band (rhythm guitarist and lead singer). I married Susan Foster in 1980 and had my son, Evan Thompson, while we lived in Napa. There I owned a business as an home electronics design and installation consultant. I sold my business in 1985 and went to work for a San Jose electronics manufacturer, Chaparral Communications, where I was actively involved in the early satellite television industry. There I conducted over 100 training seminars throughout the US on installation, sales, marketing, and customer service. I divorced in 1989 and I moved with my son, Evan, to Humboldt County in 1990 to take a job at a large communications publishing firm, Fortuna Communications, where I managed and trained a customer service and sales group for five years. My wife, Debra Webster, and I met at the publishing firm where we both worked. We moved to the Bay Area in 1995 where we married. There we worked in the high tech industry for three years before moving to Davis to open our own Internet consulting firm, Webster and Associates. Debra and I operate the business together and we both have the luxury of being able to work from home, courtesy of the Internet. We recently sold our house in Davis and bought a new house in Placerville so it looks like I'm coming back full circle to where I grew up! We now live on a hillside acre West of town, with two cats and five dogs, Sasha, Spin, Ethel, Odie Bear and Amber. All five are "rescue dogs," coming to us through the good efforts of California Chinese Shar Pei Rescue. Debra does the real work, though. She has personally helped rescue and transport dozens of dogs out of sheters and into Forever Homes. My hobbies and interests include:
